The Department of Applied Sciences has been instrumental in teaching significant subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics for first to third year engineering students. The department has its strengths in the infrastructure that meets high standards, state-of-the-art laboratories and qualified and experienced faculty members.
Department of Applied Sciences is working as a crucial supporting-department to all the Engineering Departments. Applied Sciences are mathematically rich subjects and they also possess extensive range of applications in many other fields such as: Physics, Chemistry, Engineering and Industry, Medical Sciences, Ecology, Management, Economics and Finance, Military Applications, and many others. It is almost impossible to conceive of a quantitative discipline in which mathematics and mathematical sciences do not play a fundamental role. Technology grows out of fundamental science and to appreciate this important fact, the students of engineering disciplines require a firm grounding in the basic concepts of fundamental science. In modern times, the development of science into new technologies has become faster than ever before. In such an environment, many of today’s engineering graduates will be required to participate in the development of new technologies and this requires them to have a sound knowledge of basic sciences.
Higher education institutions are entrusted to carry out the important mission of preparing future human resources, the true and sustainable wealth of a nation is committed educators, and dedicated researchers. Therefore among our missions as academic faculty members is to be involved both in the advancement of science and technology and enhancing education. In this context, the Department is striving to provide our students with the understanding of basic concepts in science and the physical real life interpretations of solutions to mathematical problems. The Department spares no efforts to equip its faculty, students and staff with up to date technological facilities by organizing various research and extracurricular activities. Our main aim is to build an engineer with a strong knowledge base in science and analytical thinking.
In the attempt of promoting the scientific cooperation between the basic science and engineers by doing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, the department has some extensive researchers engaged in cutting edge interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, often crossing the boundaries of Engineering Sciences in general.  Apart from this, the departmental faculties have been constantly working on Research Projects funded by different external funding agencies of National and International repute.


The broad objectives of the Department are:

  • To create interest among students for learning basic sciences by simplifying the topics and including more applications in Engineering.
  • To encourage research interest amongst faculty and students.
  • To foster the students’ analytical and creative skills, the Department of Applied Sciences organizes various co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as SciCon, Quiz competition, educational/industrial visits, guest lectures, poster competition and many of the kind. The department recognizes the significance of research and training in the development of faculty members and hence organizes STTPs, National Conferences, Workshops, Seminars and Symposiums periodically.

The Department of Applied Sciences envisions bright future of the students in the competitive world by fostering their all round development and hence readying them to accept and tackle the challenges of the ever demanding industrial scenario. I affirm the words of Revered Edward A. Malloy ‘A college degree is not a sign that one is a finished product but an indication a person is prepared for life’.
